The IT sector has been the fastest-growing sector in India for the past few decades. It contributed greatly to our country’s economic growth and created new job opportunities for all of us.
So what happened to “IT”? (got the pun ^_~)
In recent years IT industry has been through a crisis that led to job losses and a decline in employment opportunities for IT professionals.
Now let’s look at some of the factors contributing to the IT job crisis in India.
First and foremost it’s the rapid advancement of technology that has unimaginably transformed the landscape of IT. With a growing focus on automation, many traditional IT jobs are already eliminated and we can never put artificial intelligence out of the equation for obvious reasons, and cloud computing is also an important reason which leads to a decrease in demand for skilled professionals in certain areas. As a result, many traditional IT professionals are now sitting at home.
The widespread adoption of remote work and freelance platforms has allowed companies to access a global pool of talent which further reduced the need for local IT professionals.
The IT job crisis in India had a significant impact on both fresh graduates and experienced professionals. Several young IT graduates who pursue careers in IT are finding it quite difficult to secure employment which leads to underemployment and a mismatch of skills in the job market. On the other hand, experienced IT professionals aren’t able to keep up with the rapidly evolving technology which leads them to re-skill or face the risk of being mediocre in their field.
So how can it be fixed? How can we end this crisis?
First of all a huge amount of focus must be placed on upskilling the IT graduates from the college only by reshaping the traditional programs and adding more modern technologies to the syllabus so that they can learn to use the new AI-based tools and do their work more efficiently than ever.
The support of the Government is quite necessary for the growth of the IT industry. Their allowance to the technology companies in India to grow and create a conducive environment is very much needed and for that, the government has to work together with stakeholders.
In conclusion, the situation can be saved!
For that, all the fresh graduates have to upskill themselves (outside the traditional syllabus) and the Government’s support along with the stakeholders of the industry can save the IT industry and make it bloom once again.
